Decision theoretic troubleshooting of coherent systems

چکیده
We present an approach to efficiently generating an inspection strategy for fault diagnosis. We extend the traditional troubleshooting framework to model nonperfect repair actions, and we include questions. Questions are troubleshooting steps that do not aim at repairing the device, but merely are performed to capture information about the failed equipment, and thereby ease the identification and repair of the fault. We show how Vesely and Fussell’s measure of component importance extends to this situation, and focus on its applicability to compare troubleshooting steps. We give an approximate algorithm for generating a “good” troubleshooting strategy in cases where the assumptions underlying Vesely and Fussell’s component importance are violated, and discuss how to incorporate questions into this troubleshooting strategy. Finally, we utilize certain properties of the domain to propose a fast calculation scheme.

Extensions of Decision-Theoretic Troubleshooting: Cost Clusters and Precedence Constraints
In decision-theoretic troubleshooting [5,2], we try to find a cost efficient repair strategy for a malfunctioning device described by a formal model. The need to schedule repair actions under uncertainty has required the researchers to use an appropriate knowledge representation formalism, often a probabilistic one. The troubleshooting problem has received considerable attention over the past t...
متن کاملGame-Theoretic Approach for Pricing Decisions in Dual-Channel Supply Chain
In the current study, a dual-channel supply chain is considered containing one manufacturer and two retailers. It is assumed that the manufacturer and retailers have the same decision powers. A game-theoretic approach is developed to analyze pricing decisions under the centralized and decentralized scenarios. First, the Nash model is established to obtain the equilibrium decisions in the decent...
متن کاملTroubleshooting under Uncertainty
We develop a series of approximations for decision-theoretic troubleshooting under uncertainty. Our approach generates troubleshooting plans in the face of uncertainty in the relationships among components and device status, observations, as well as the affect of actions on device status. Included in our approach is a Bayesian-network representation of these relationships. We have applied our t...
متن کاملDecision-theoretic case-based reasoning
We describe a decision-theoretic methodology for case-based reasoning in diagnosis and troubleshooting applications. The system utilizes a special-structure Bayesian network to represent diagnostic cases, with nodes representing issues, causes, and symptoms. Dirichlet distributions are assessed at knowledge acquisition time to indicate the strength of relationships between variables. During a d...
متن کاملA Troubleshooting Approach with Dependent Actions
The basic decision-theoretic troubleshooting task is described in this paper. Dependency sets are defined for a better understanding of dependent actions. It is shown that an optimal troubleshooting sequence is achievable once these sets are solved optimally. Then, an efficient heuristic method is introduced that adjusts action efficiencies myopically and performs a greedy search. Performance o...
